{"id":842,"date":"2014-03-30T17:01:23","date_gmt":"2014-03-30T17:01:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.flying-rv7.com\/?p=842"},"modified":"2019-01-12T16:03:52","modified_gmt":"2019-01-12T16:03:52","slug":"preparation-of-skeleton-and-skin-before-priming","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.flying-rv7.com\/?p=842","title":{"rendered":"Preparation of skeleton and skins before priming"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Goal: Prevent cracks related to repeated vibrations during all phases of flight (taxiing , flying, landing , aerobatics).<\/p>\n<p>Each part of the skeleton of the horizontal stabilizer is inspected :<br \/>\n  &#8211; Scratches are polished with sandpaper (weight 400)<br \/>\n   &#8211; Each hole is trimmed using a specific tool in the beginning, then I used a drill bit = > Easier and good  results,<br \/>\n<center><img src=\"http:\/\/www.flying-rv7.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/IMG_4357.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><br \/>\n<img src=\"http:\/\/www.flying-rv7.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/IMG_4356.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/center><br \/>\n  &#8211; The edges are filed down (to remove traces related to the manufacturing process) and sandpapered<br \/>\n<center><img src=\"http:\/\/www.flying-rv7.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/IMG_4371.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/center><br \/>\n  &#8211; The corners are rounded,<br \/>\n  &#8211; Where necessary, each hole is dimpled (so that the rivet is flush with the skin) :<br \/>\nWith the pneumatic squeezer for parts of the skeleton<br \/>\n<center><img src=\"http:\/\/www.flying-rv7.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/IMG_4353.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/center><br \/>\nWith the C-Frame for the skins<br \/>\n<center><img src=\"http:\/\/www.flying-rv7.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/IMG_4362.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/center><br \/>\nWith manual riveter for holes near the leading edge of the horizontal stabilizer<br \/>\n<center><img src=\"http:\/\/www.flying-rv7.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/IMG_4365.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/center><\/p>\n<p>This process is quite long and tedious but absolutely necessary for the longevity of the aircraft.<\/p>\n<p>Now, all parts of the horizontal stabilizer are prepared for the priming process ( Diatex ) .<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Goal: Prevent cracks related to repeated vibrations during all phases of flight (taxiing , flying, landing , aerobatics).
